Life convict held with firearm

A life convict, who had been absconding, was apprehended here with illegal arms and ammunition, police said today.

Pankaj was arrested yesterday by a team of Special Cell from the Bihari Colony in Shahadra, said DCP(Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said.

One .32 calibre pistol loaded with six cartridges and 50 live cartridges of .30 bore firearm have been recovered from him.

"Informations were received since mid-January that Pankaj along with his associates is moving with arms in the area of east, north east and Shahdara districts with the motive to murder their rival Kamaljeet alias Bittu.

"Sources were deployed to trace Pankaj's movements. Yesterday, information was received that Pankaj will come to meet his associate at Shahdara - Bihari Colony Mod. A trap was laid there and at about 5.15 PM, Pankaj was apprehended," headed.
 

"The accused is a life convict in a murder case registered at Anand Vihar police station and was absconding since 2015.

"He is a proclaimed offender in a murder case of Karawal Nagar police station and is wanted in many cases of attempt to murder in the areas of east, north east and Shahdara districts," the officer said.

Pankaj is a member of Kamal Kumar alias Billa gang and was allegedly involved in attacks on the rival gang of Kamaljit alias Bittu, he said.
