Life imprisonment awarded to youth for raping minor girl

A local court has awarded life imprisonment to a 20-year-old youth for raping and impregnating a 13-year-old girl at Bothli village in the district about eight months ago.

In his judgement pronounced yesterday, First Class Additional Sessions Judge Rajendra Prasad Gupta imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on the accused.

According to the prosecution, Kedar, a resident of Bothli village, took the girl to a field in January and raped her there after which she got pregnant.

The victim had narrated the whole episode to her maternal grandmother after which a case was registered against the accused at Bahela police station on May 25 and he was subsequently arrested.
 

Later, the case was submitted for trial in the court under Section 376 of IPC and Child Protection Act.

A couple of days ago, the victim gave birth to a baby boy in the district hospital.
