The sessions court here today sentenced five persons, including two women, to life imprisonment in a case of abduction and murder.

Additional Sessions Judge PVP Lalitha Siva Jyothi awarded the sentence to Kondapaka Sridhar (30), Akuleni Indira (26), Kondapaka Sujatha (29), Guduri Raju (24) and Konda Raju (21), after finding them guilty in the case.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 17,000 each on the convicts.

Another accused, Merugu Chiranjivi (25), died during the trial, said Additional Public Prosecutor Vengaldas Srinivas.

The six were accused of abducting and killing Gadadasu Srinivas (42), a resident of Sircilla, in June, 2011.

According to the police, the victim went missing after leaving for Hyderabad on June 20, 2011. Two days later, his parents received a call from the convicts, who demanded a ransom of Rs 25,000 for his safe return.

The victim's father had subsequently alerted the police.

The police had tracked down Kondapaka Sridhar, a resident of Mancherial district, and the other convicts with the help of their mobile call details.

The convicts had killed Srinivas as they did not receive the ransom and kept his body in a refrigerator in a flat in the Uppal area of Hyderabad.

The convicts were tried in court for abduction, murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence under the Indian Penal Code.

Eleven witnesses were examined during the trial, the additional public prosecutor said.
