: A life size bronze statue of former DMK Minister the late Veerapandi S Arumugam was unveiled here today amid a war of words over its uncovering.
Sources said the Municipal Commissioner had refused permission for the statue, but DMK moved the High Court and got the stay vacated .
This morning the city police commisioner sent a letter through Assistant Police Commisioner stating that the statue should not be unveiled as police had not received court order.

The notice in this regard was pasted on the door of the party office as the DMK secretary was away to receive their leader M K Stalin in Namakkal
Meanwhile a lawyer reportedly reportedly sent a fax to police stating that a defamation case would be filed if the court order was violated.
The statue was unveiled this evening.
