Life term for labourer for murdering wife

A 27-year-old daily wage earner was today sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for murdering his wife and harassing her for dowry in May 2010.

Second Additional District and Sessions Judge Mary Anselam sentenced Anil Kumar under IPC 302 (murder) and Dowry Prohibition Act, Public Prosecutor K.Shanmugham said.

The prosecution case was that Anil Kumar was pestering his 22-year-old wife for dowry and set her ablaze after dousing her with kerosene at home on May 1, 2010.

The woman succumbed to her injuries at a hospital a few days later.

A case of murder and dowry harassment was registered against Anil Kumar who was also allegedly having illicit relationship with another woman.
