Life term for raping 17-year-old girl

A local court today sentenced a 26-year-old man to life for raping a teenaged girl while sentencing seven others, including the man's parents, to various terms ranging from two to ten years in connection with the case.

On January 13 last year, Yuvaprakash had kidnapped the 17-year-old girl, his neighbour, belonging to a minority community with the help of his relatives and forcibly married her and raped her several times.

Besides sentencing him to life, Erode District Mahila Court Judge N Thirunavukkarasu imposed Rs 50,000 fine on him for kidnapping the girl.

In addition, the judge awarded ten years RI to two persons, Karthikeyan and Chandrakumar, and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each on them for helping him abduct the girl and arrange accommodation.
 

The judge sentenced Paramasivam, Nirmaladevi (father and mother of Yuvaprakash), Velayutham, Durairaj and Thirunavukkarasu to two years RI and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them for helping him kidnap the girl.
