Lifer scores 79 per cent marks in UP board exam

A lifer was among eight prisoners at the district jail here who have secured first division marks in secondary exams conducted by Uttar Pradesh board.

A total of nine inmates of the jail had appeared in the examination with all of them having successfully cleared the same, jail officials said today.

Of them, one Atul Kumar Sharma has scored 79.8 per cent marks, officials said, adding that one Jasod had passed the exam in second division.

Sharma is serving a life sentence after being convicted in the murder of his brother.

Jasod was convicted along with five others for murdering the wife of BJP leader and MLA Hukum Singh last year.
 

Jail officials said that 53 prisoners had appeared in the high school examination from the four districts jails at Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Ghaziabad with all but two of them clearing the test.

Forty-nine of those who have passed the exam scored first division marks. Jail officials added.

An examination centre has been set up at Dasna jail in Ghaziabad for inmates in the jails of western UP.
