Sultry weather prevailed in several parts of north India today even as some places in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh received light to moderate rains, bringing down temperatures in the region.
It was hot and sultry in Delhi with the maximum temperature almost touching 35 degrees Celsius while the humidity levels soared to as high as 90 per cent.
Mercury settled a notch above normal at 34.7 degrees Celsius, which was significantly higher than yesterday's reading of 32.2 degrees Celsius, Met department said.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.7 degree Celsius, normal for this part of the year, and above yesterday's minimum temperature of 23.6 degrees Celsius.
As the city received no rains in the last 36 hours after a wet patch in the last couple of days, humidity levels remained on the higher side oscillating between 57 and 90 per cent.
After being lashed by rains for the past few days, weather remained sultry across Punjab and Haryana today with temperatures hovering close to the normal level.
Chandigarh recorded a high of 35.2 degrees Celsius, the MeT report said.
In Punjab, Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded identical maximums of 33.2 degrees Celsius while Patiala registered a high of 34.6 degrees Celsius.
Ambala in Haryana recorded a maximum of 34.2 degrees Celsius while Hisar's high settled at 35 degrees Celsius and Bhiwani, Karnal and Narnaul recorded 33.4, 33 and 34 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Light to moderate rainfall occurred at few places in Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions of Rajasthan and very light rains at isolated areas in Udaipur division since yesterday.
Weather in remaining parts of the state was dry, the Met department said.
Govindgarh in Alwar district received 6 cm of rainfall followed by Bharatpur 5 cm. Kota recorded 17.3 mm rains till evening since morning today.
Light to heavy rain was experienced in a few places over Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours.
Kanpur received 9 cm of rainfall followed by Thakurdwara 7 cm, Unnao 6 cm, Hardoi, Bareilly and Elgin Bridge (Barabanki) 4 cm each, Ayodhya, Pilihit 3 cm each, according to the Met department.
