Lightning kills 9 in UP; monsoon active

Nine people were killed after lightning struck them in different parts of Uttar Pradesh as several areas received heavy rain in the last 24 hours.

Four persons died in Banda district, three in Chitrakoot district and one each in Bhadohi and Farrukhabad district after being hit by lightning last night, reports said today.

According to the Met office here, south-west monsoon was active in parts of the state and moderate to rather heavy rain/thundershowers took place at many places with heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places.

Kaisarganj got 22 cm rain, Purwa 13 cm, Raebareli 11 cm, Kanpur 10 cm, Bahraich and Fursatganj 9 cm each, Pallia Kalan 8 cm, Katerniaghat, Neemsar and Moradabad got 7 cm each, Nighasan and Nakur 6 cm each, Haidergarh, Nawabganj, Hamirpur and Deoband 5 cm each, the Met officials said.
 

The weatherman has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at several places.
