Lightning strikes: 2 killed on way to school for R-Day event;

On the way to their schools to attend Republic Day functions, two students were killed and 19 other injured as lightning struck them in separate incidents in Jaipur and Ajmer even as some parts of the state received light to moderate rains.

In another incident, 55-year-old farmer Prahlad Mali was killed in Tonk when lightning struck while he was working in his fields this morning.

Two students, Ganesh Mahawar and Ashok Meena (both aged around 15 years), were killed in the lightening strike when they were on their way to the school to attend the Republic day function in Bassi town near Jaipur.
 

"The students were on the way to school to attend Republic Day event when it suddenly started raining. The duo took shelter under a tree. Lightening struck and they were left grievously injured," investigating officer in the case Mohan Lal told PTI.

In another incident near Mohanpura of Bassi town, students going to school for Republic Day event took shelter under tree to avoid heavy rain when lightning struck.

Nine of them were injured in the incident. Three were "critical" and admitted to SMS Hospital after, said the Bassi Police.

In Tonk, a farmer was killed in a similar incident when he was working in his fields this morning. The deceased was identified as Prahlad Mali (55).

"He had gone to his farm in the morning when he died in the lightening strike," the sadar (Tonk) police said.

A lightning strike near a government school in Ajmer left seven girls and three teachers "in shock".

The republic day function was going on in the school in Sarwar police station area when the lightening struck.

The students and teachers got scared and were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were given primary treatment and were discharged, the police said.
