'Lion' wins diversity in film award at Zurich festival

Indian-origin actor Dev Patel and Sunny Pawar starrer "Lion" has received the diversity in film award from Zurich Film Festival, which opened with the film's European premiere in September.

Directed by Garth Davis the movie also stars Rooney Mara and Nicole Kidman.

The award will be presented tonight by Karl Spoerri, the co-director of Zurich Film Festival, reported Variety.

The movie revolves around the story of Saroo Brierley, an Australian man who uses Google Earth to find the family that he was separated from in India.

While Sunny plays the younger version of Saroo, Patel essays the role of grown up Saroo, who comes to India to find his lost family.
 

"I have always been a firm believer in the power of film and art to create positive change.'Lion' is the perfect example of the power of unconditional love and its ability to transcend any socially constructed differences.

"At the end of the day, we are all humans and we share an enormous capacity to love and be loved. More than ever, this film reminds us to be open, tolerant, and kind to all people no matter our differences," Davis said.

The film releases in India in February.
