A Punjab BJP leader today demanded a complete ban on liquor in the state, saying such a move will help the party win the 2017 Assembly polls.

Laxmi Kanta Chawla, a former minister in the SAD-BJP government, said there should be prohibition in Punjab on the lines of what has been done in Bihar.

"If the Punjab government can follow the Bihar government's move of giving bicycles to girls to win the elections, then why can't it put a complete ban on liquor in the state," she said here.

"The challenge of the Assembly polls is in front of us and at a time like this, Nitish Kumar has set an example for us. The SAD-BJP government should take a lesson from it and impose a complete a ban on liquor and then step into the electoral arena," she said.
