At a time when different parties are demanding imposition of prohibition in the state and staging protests for the same, liquor bottles are being symbolically offered to the presiding deity of a remote village in this district.

In the temple near Chinnamanur, priests symbolically offer liqour bottles to the rural deity Karuppanna Swamy.

Hundreds of bottles are offered to the Lord on Saturdays, especially in the Tamil month of Aadi (July 17-August 17).

Officials said after the offering is made, contents of the bottles are poured into a pit behind the idol.

Officials said 1582 bottles of liquor of different brands were collected during the last week and after performing pooja, the bottles were emptied into the pit.

Devotees offer liquor for performing pooja to the deity as a part of fulfilment of their vows.
