Justice Ujjal Bhuyan passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by an owner of a bar Arun Pathak who had challenged an order passed by the Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner to close it down following complaints that it was located within a radius of 500 metres of a church on G S Road.
Justice Bhuyan after taking note of the submissions observed that the same should be applied uniformly and not selectively and accordingly ordered the district administration to close down all bars and liquor shops in Guwahati city within the specified area.
The court also directed that all bars and liquor shops situated within a radius of 500 metres of institutions including those within 500 metres of the Gauhati High Court and other courts and tribunals of Guwahati city by 5:00 pm.
The court directed the Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner to submit the compliance report at 10:30 am tomorrow and fixed the case for further hearing tomorrow.
