Liquor worth about Rs one crore seized in Bihar

A team of Excise and Prohibition department today seized 300 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), said to be worth about Rs one crore, and arrested two persons in this connection.

Excise Superintendent Deen Bandhu said "a raid was conducted in Motipur police station area of Muzaffarpur district after we received information that liquor, worth about Rs one crore, had been brought from Haryana".

"At least 300 cartons of foreign liquor, which were being offloaded from a truck bearing a Haryana number plate for being carried in five small vehicles, were seized. All the six vehicles have also been seized", he said.
 

"Two persons, both of them local residents, were arrested from the spot even as other occupants of the six vehicles managed to flee", Bandhu said.

Sale and consumption of alcohol has been completely banned in Bihar by the Nitish Kumar government since April last year.
