Liquor worth around Rs 64 lakh, which was being illegally transported, was seized by state excise department, in Nashik district, officials said today.
Acting on a tip-off, members of the flying squad yesterday laid a trap in Varhane-Shivar village on the Malegaon-Manmad road and inspected the truck carrying 7,600 litres of alcohol which was stopped at a road-side eatery, said Digambar Shewale, secondary inspector of excise department.
The truck contained 38 barrels of alcohol worth Rs 63.74 lakh. We seized the liquor, impounded the truck and arrested its driver, Dinesh Kumar Vishvakarma, the officer said.
In similar incident, excise department officials last evening raided a road-side eatery at Umberthan village in Nashik district and seized liquor worth Rs 27,000 illegally brought from Daman, excise inspector P N Patil said.
