Even one year after the proposal was mooted, there has been little progress in the proposed Krushaka Bazaar (farmers market) at Semiliguda in Odisha's Koraput district.

The Regulated Market Committee (RMC) of Koraput had in 2014 proposed the Rs 1.9 crore market to provide a platform to farmers to sell their produce. But except for the design and the estimate, nothing has been done so far.

"We sent the proposal and the final estimation report of the project to Odisha State Agricultural Marketing Board in May 2014 for its approval. We are still waiting for the board's nod to take up the project," said Secretary of RMC (Koraput) Sukanta Kumar Padhi.

Official sources said the market is proposed to come up on 1.5 acres in a two-storey structure with 80 stalls and two godowns.

Farmers will be allotted stalls on monthly rental basis. Traders dealing in agricultural products can open shop in the market.

"We sit along the roads to sell our produce. The proposed market would be of great help to us. We can sell and store our produce there," said Somdev Guntha, a farmer of Subai.
