A liver transplant precedure using laparoscopic method would be beamed live from a hospital in South Korea during the four-day Silver Jubilee National Conference of Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterologists, beginning here on October 6.

Claimed to be first of its kind, the transplant in laparoscopic method would benefit nearly 1,500 surgeons from India and Abroad, attending the conference, its organising chairman Dr C Palanivelu told reporters here today.

The conference would feature liver surgeries, international summit and updates on cancer treatment of the gastrointestinal tract, which is the main theme, he said.

Besides the liver transplant, various other laparoscopic cancer surgeries will be telecast live from GEM Hospital to the venue in the latest 4K and 3D format on the first day, he said.

Also, 30 experts would deliberate about the standard of care for pancreatic cancer, he said.

The 2nd Asia Pacific expert committee meeting will be held on laparoscopic liver resection on October 8 during the event, with an aim to popularise the procedure in the Asia Pacific region, Dr P Senthilnathan, a committee member representing India in the forum, said.
