Load-shedding back in Chennai

After a few months of respite, load-shedding is back in Chennai with state-run TANGEDCO announcing the new schedule against the backdrop of increase in power cut in other parts of the state.

According to TANGEDCO's new schedule, load-shedding will be resorted to for two hours in different parts of the city and its suburbs starting December 2, between 8 am and 6 pm.

The move comes in the wake of protests in some districts against load-shedding being implemented there, in some cases upto 6-8 hours, even as the state capital of Chennai has been spared.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had recently alleged poor performance of central generating units had resulted in a shortfall of 2500 mw, resulting in load-shedding. She had also sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention to ensure maximum electricity supply.
