A local leader was arrested here after he allegedly opened fire in a religious function in Southwest Delhi's Bindapur area here today.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as 40-year-old Ajay Pahalwan, a local leader and RWA president.

"A Sikh Kirtan was going on in Gulabi Bagh area when Pahalwan reached the spot with some of his supporters and fired shots in the air.

When somebody asked him not to do so, he fired another shot toward him. Luckily, nobody was injured in the incident," said a senior police official.

Someone made a PCR call following which a police team rushed to the spot and nabbed Pahalwan.

The exact reason of his opening fire was still not clear, police said.

The accused has been arrested and a ballistic team was ascertaining how many shots were fired.

"We are also verifying whether the pistol used in the firing was a licenced weapon or illegal one," he said.

Based on the statements of the eyewitnesses, police has registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and Pahalwan has been arrested.
