The Tamil Nadu government today informed the state Assembly of the hardships it faced in implementing various sewerage schemes in the wake of protests by locals over land acquisition.
"It is difficult for the government to acquire land to implement sewerage plants in various places. People in the area where we plan to implement sewerage schemes protest against such a move. They either protest or go to court," Municipal Administration Minister K P Munusamy said.
Replying to queries and requests by legislators, he said, "People protest even when we intend to implement sewerage schemes in government owned lands. They are quite reluctant."
The Minister, however, assured legislators that action would be taken to implement such schemes across the state.
