Local train runs over two fisherwomen near Thakurli

Two women of a family from Vasai in neighbouring Palghar district were run over by a suburban train while they were crossing the tracks near Thakurli railway station today, police said.

Manjula Baja (40) and Geeta Jebi (35), who are sisters-in-law, were crossing the tracks with fish to sell them at the Thakurli market when they were hit by a Badlapur-bound train at around 8:30 am, said police inspector GS Hiremath of Dombviili railway police station.

He said the women died on the spot.

A case of accidental death was registered, the inspector said.
