Locals today blocked the Bulandshahr-Garhmukteshwar state highway for over five hours to protest the death of a 30-year-old man who they claimed had died during police custody.

Bobby, a resident of Syana town here, was taken into custody in connection with the murder of his mother on October 21, SSP Anant Dev Tiwari said.

While the police claimed that he had been released after a formal inquiry, the deceased's brother Manoj alleged that Bobby had been picked up by the police five days back and tortured during custody.

"He died during custody and his body was dumped by the police on Bulandshahr-Garhmukteshwar highway near Syana town to make it look like an accident," Manoj claimed.

The road block was lifted after the SSP met the agitating locals and assured a probe into the matter.
