Locals pull down houses of 'buffalo thieves' in UP, 25 held

Twenty-five people were arrested here after they pulled down houses of two alleged buffalo thieves at Parae Ugrasenpur village, police said today.

The buffaloes belonging to one Basant Lal Agrahari were stolen on July 16 after which he had lodged a complaint against two persons - Salman and his father Ishtiyaq - of his village, they said.

Following alleged inaction by police in the case, agitated villagers, along with the complainant, yesterday pulled down the houses of accused, they said.

An FIR against 33 named persons and 50 others has been lodged in this connection, of which 25 have been arrested, Superintendent of Police Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj said.
 

Meanwhile, the local police station in charge and the concerned sub-inspector have been suspended till further probe in the case, the SP said.

"Police station in charge, Bhaskar Misra and concerned sub-inspector Virendra Mali have been placed under suspension," added Pankaj.
