Over 1,300 locals today staged a demonstration to demand removal of "encroachments" by Gujjars on Rs 150 crore prime land of Jammu Development Authority.
Led by RTI activist Balvinder Singh, residents and activists demonstrated against encroachment of the prime JDA land in Gole Gujral area of the city.
Holding the state government responsible for failing to check encroachment and removal of illegal constructions, the protesters demanded that the land be immediately vacated as 1,372 plots on it had been alloted to them.

"We demand immediate removal of encroachments from the prime JDA land and grant of 1,372 plots to those who have been alloted," Singh told reporters here.
About 50 acres have been encroached upon by Gujjars who had come from various places under the patronage of some political leaders, he alleged.
On March 20, Jammu and Kashmir High Court had pulled JDA for massive land grabbing and directed the authority to remove encroachments from nearly 170 Kanals of Gole Gujaral land as JDA had admitted that its prime area is under encroachment.
Under pressure from the HC, JDA had issued final eviction notices to as many as 76 land grabbers last month.
