Locals stage protest over alleged killing of calf

Hundreds of people of a minority community held a protest over the alleged killing of a calf in Surajpole gate area here today, police said.

Hundreds of residents gathered in Darjion-ki-Gali of Surajpole gate area and blocked the road demanding the arrest of the alleged butcher, DCP-North Ashok Gupta told PTI.

The protest was triggered after a resident, Jagdish Meena found his recently born calf missing from outside his house and blood stains on the road, the officer said.

The incident led to tension in the area after which extra security force was deployed and the situation brought under control by afternoon, he said.
 

A close vigil is being maintained in the area as a precautionary measure, the DCP said, adding that a case was registered and a team deployed to catch the culprit.
