Locals stage protest, tension grips high-security area

Locals staged a protest against a missionary school in Badamibagh cantonment here today, accusing its management of converting students to christianity which sparked tension in the high-security area.

Hundreds of locals took to the streets in Shivpora locality in Badamibagh cantonment demanding action against the management of a missionary school for what they alleged converting Muslim students to christianity, official sources said.

Some of the protesters indulged in stone-pelting but police brought the situation under control, they said.

"Police received an information regarding a skirmish in Shivpora locality where an NGO is running a small school. A police team, which went to the scene, brought the situation under control," a police spokesman said.
 

There was no report of any casualties, he said.

"Police is looking into the matter," the spokesman said.
