Locals to fill vacant posts in tribal areas: Himachal CM

The Himachal Pradesh government has taken a decision to fill all vacant functional posts in various departments in tribal areas by local youths, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said today.

The academic session will be restored to old pattern from next year and examinations will be held in the month of December in tribal areas, he said presiding over a Tribal Advisory Council meeting here.

Committees will be formed at village-level to help preserve and implement Forest Rights of bona fide people, the Chief Minister said.

The government has proposed an outlay of Rs 2052 crore under the tribal-sub plan during the 12th five-year plan to accelerate the pace of development, he said.
 

The allocation for the current year is Rs 369 crore which is 11 per cent higher than last year, Singh said.

The Kinnaur tribal district has suffered colossal damage due to excessive rains and floods in June and the government has released Rs 25-crore to the Deputy Commissioner for relief and rehabilitation works, he said.

The Chief Minister said pre-feasibility study of the Holi-Chamunda tunnel, which will reduce the distance between the two places by 240-km, is being conducted.
