Global aerospace firm Lockheed Martin and the India chapter of the Women in Aviation International (WAI)got together to stage a "Girls in Aviation" Day here.
As part of the event, around 50 girls from two schools here visited the Visakhapatnam airport, where they had an opportunity to learn from employees and discuss airport operations with members of the senior airport management team.
The girls also met with representatives from industry and local government to discuss the relevance of careers in engineering and aviation to todays young women.

Shaw added that in this way we can unlock the full national potential, underpinning the Government of Indias Skills India initiative.
Radha Bhatia, Chairperson, Bird Group and President WAI (India Chapter) said, "We aim to empower more and more girls with the requisite skill sets to take up aviation as a viable career option."
The WAI India Chapter comprises of a group of women professionals from various sectors of aviation with an aim to expand the participation of girls into more sectors of occupations in aviation and aerospace.
