Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today remembered Ram Manohar Lohia as an "architect of opposition unity" on his 105th birth anniversary.

"Lohia was a multi-faceted personality. I have a long association with him, he had contested the by-election from Goregaon Mumbai in 1963. He had the special capability of taking the opposition along. Lohia was the architect of opposition unity," Naik said while taking part in the 105th birth anniversary function of Lohia.

The governor also released SP general secretary, Ram Gopal Yadav's book, along with SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav among other ruling party leaders.

Naik said that though Lohia had profound knowledge of other languages, he was of the view that Hindi and other regional languages should be used by maximum people.

Stressing that Lohia led a very simple life, the Governor said that taking inspiration from his values and principles will be the true homage to the great socialist.

Naik also garlanded the statue of Lohia on the occasion.
