Lohri Festival begins in Jammu

The annual Lohri festival today began in Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Department of Tourism has organised the two-day Lohri Festival at Bagh-e-Bahu here, in collaborations with of various trade associations to showcase the cultural heritage of Jammu.

Jammu Divisional Commissioner Shantmanu inaugurated the festival. Speaking at the event, the Divisional Commissioner said such type of events showcase the unique cultural ethos and heritage of Jammu, besides promoting cultural tourism.

Other attractions of the festival are ethnic food stalls, cultural show with Chajja dance and illumination of Bagh-e -Bahu. Tomorrow, a procession will be flagged off from Sabzi Mandi Chowk Parade and will culminate at Raghunath Bazar.
 

Prizes for the best three decorated shops at Raghunath Bazar will also be given by Tourism Department. Handicrafts exhibition-cum-sale also began at Dussehra ground to boost the morale of weavers and artisans who have displayed their items in the expo.

Director Handicrafts Tariq Hussain Ganai on the occasion stressed upon creating healthy buyer-seller relations and also generating awareness about various welfare schemes of the department.

He said that expo which would continue till January 22 would not only provide platform and marketing avenues to the artisans but also ensure better products to the buyers.

On the occasion, artists of Cultural Wing of Information Department presented a cultural show which enthralled the audience.
