Lok Adalat settles 99 cases

At least 99 cases of various natures were settled in the 17th High Court-level mega Lok Adalat held here today.

A substantial number of these cases were pertaining to Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases in which the insurance companies were directed to pay damage to the tune of Rs 2.38 crore to different claimants.

Executive chairman of Odisha State Legal Services Authority Justice Pradeep K. Mohanty and justices B P Ray, S C Parija, Biswajit Mohanty, S Pujahari of Orissa High Court presided over the benches of the Lok Adalat to adjudicate over the listed cases.

The Lok Adalat on the day also took up several family cases in which at least two estranged couples were successfully counselled to reunite. The Lok Adalat also disposed off several family cases by directing the contesting parties to settle the marital discords arising out of demand and return of dowry cash and materials worth over Rs 1.20 crore.
