The Lok Adalat, held on Saturday and Sunday in Saket, provided BRPL customers residing in south and west Delhi a one-time opportunity for an amicable and on-the-spot settlement of power theft cases relating to both direct theft and meter tampering.

A total of 1,579 cases involving Rs 12.31 crore were settled, said a BRPL official.

"The Lok Adalat provided BRPL customers a cost effective and a one-stop-setup for settlement of their power theft cases. A total of 12 courts were set up to settle the cases," the official said.

As per its environment friendly initiative, the BRPL made the proceedings at the Lok Adalat a "paperless affair".

"There were no physical movements of files and all relevant case documents and files were accessed through 24 computers. The two-day paperless Lok Adalat saved over 30,000 A4 (page) sheets," the official said.

The BRPL and the DLSA had organised Lok Adalats on four occasions in the past few years and settled over 7,500 cases.

"The Lok Adalat was a success because of the encouragement and support of Justice D Murugesan, Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and Chairman of Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA)," BRPL said in a statement.
