Over 24,000 cases were disposed of by the Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) at Lok Adalats held at the High Court and district courts across the state.
The National Lok Adalat was held yesterday under the patronage of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar, who is also Patron-in-Chief of SLSA, an official spokesman said.
SLSA Member Secretary RN Watal said 24,854 cases were disposed of. The cases included 278 motor accident claim tribunal cases wherein an amount of Rs 12.84 crore was awarded as compensation and 671 bank recovery cases wherein Rs 10.51 crore was recovered.

Justice Vasanthakumar, accompanied by Justice Aloke Arade, inspected the National Lok Adalat at the Jammu wing of the High Court and the District Court Complex in Jammu and gave compensation cheques to the victims of motor accidents.
At High Court wing Srinagar, the National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Executive Chairman J&K SLSA, in presence of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Chairman High Court Legal Services Committee.
In the Srinagar wing of the High Court only one bench was constituted headed by Justice Hasnain Masoodi (Retd).
In Anantnag, the National Lok Adalat was organised by Tehsil Legal Services Authority wherein 180 cases were taken up for hearing, out of which 96 cases were amicably settled and a fine of Rs 19,200 was recovered.
In Budgam, five benches were constituted throughout the district for holding of the National Lok Adalat wherein 277 cases were taken up for hearing and 70 cases were disposed of.
