A Lok Sabha member today proposed setting up of a Cauvery river water management board to resolve the issue of sharing of its water by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, P Lingam (CPI) said that Tamil Nadu and other states should get their due share of Cauvery water.

There should be a Cauvery river water management board to look into the sharing of water between the states, he said.

Noting that Tamil Nadu is facing a drought like situation, Lingam said, "The problems in sharing of Cauvery water should be resolved immediately."

Congress member Ponnam Prabhakar urged that the government should include all regional languages in the UPSC examination.

The removal of regional languages from UPSC examinations has created a lot of anxiety among the candidates and they "should be given the option to write in regional languages", he said.

Nishikant Dubey (BJP) said Jharkhand suffers from acute water shortage during the summer months and efforts should be made by the Centre to solve this problem.

"There is a drought for two consecutive years and then it rains in the third year in Jharkhand. This is a set pattern. Water management needs to be done in the state. Only 10 per cent of the state is under irrigation," he said.
