Lokayukta raids civic body chief's houses, seizes huge wealth

Lokayukta police today raided three residences of Mandideep municipality president Poornima Jain and seized huge "disproportionate" wealth worth several crores of rupees.

"We raided three places belonging to Jain and her relatives at Budhni area in Sehore district, Aishbagh region of Bhopal, Mandideep area in Raisen district," Bhopal Lokayukta Police Superintendent Virendra Singh told PTI.

"We have unearthed huge wealth worth several crores of rupees, which prima facie, looks disproportionate to her known sources of income," he said.

He said that they unearthed Rs 84,000 in hard cash, 265 gm of gold and 700 gm silver from the residence of Jain at Mandideep.
 

She had been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, he said.

Singh said that Jain owned five acres land at Samnapur area near Obaidullahganj region in Raisen, six acres at Ramnagar, 25 acres of agriculture land at Yarnagar and two-storeyed house spread over 2,400 square feet area in Budhni.

He said that Jain recently bought a defunct factory, two warehouses at Mandideep and six flats in the name of her relatives at Aishbagh locality.

She owns five four wheelers including an SUV and a couple of two-wheelers. Her Budhni based house had goods and belongings worth Rs 20 lakh and her house in Mandideep had a Rs 10 lakh inventory, the SP said.

Singh said that Jain said that her property is worth Rs 3 crore.

"We are calculating their actual purchase value," he said, adding that raids against Jain came after a complaint.
