A London-bound British Airways flight from here with 150 passengers on board was cancelled here today due to a technical snag.

The stranded aircraft is now expected to depart for its destination either tonight or tomorrow, an airport official said.

The British Airways flight BA36 was scheduled to take off for London's Heathrow Airport from the international airport at 5.35 AM.

"The passengers, however, were informed of the cancellation only around 1030, almost five hours after boarding the flight," the official said.

After the passengers protested the delay, they were deplaned and are now lodged in various hotels in the city, the official added.

Airline officials were not available for comments when contacted.

The airline is doing all it can to fix the aircraft for its departure today, it said adding, "the safety of our customers and crew are always our top priorities and we would never operate a flight unless it was safe to do so."

"We provided hotel rooms overnight and refreshments for our customers," the release added.
