Polling for a single municipal corporation in Chhattisgarh will be held tomorrow in which 78,707 voters are eligible to vote for electing a mayor and corporators for 40 wards.

The preparations have been done for the Birgaon municipal corporation election and thepollingparties have reached their destination amid tight security, a state election official told PTI.

As many as 79 polling booths have been set up for the polling which will be held from 8 AM to 5 PM, he said.

The fate of 16 candidates contesting for the mayor's post and of over 200 candidates who are in fray for the post of 40 corporators will be decided by altogether 78,707 voters.

These include 43,666 male and 35,041 female voters.

The polls are being seen as a litmus test for the ruling BJP which is at the helm of affairs in the state since the last 12 years.

Notably, Congress had put up a good showin the civic body elections in Chhattisgarh in 2014-15, winning four out of 10municipalcorporations while the ruling BJP reduced to four, two less than from last time.

Besides, rest of the two seats was won by independent candidates, including a eunuch candidate.

However, the election was not held in then newly-formed Birgaon municipal corporation.

This time tussle is mainly between BJP and Congress.

The result would be announced onNovember 19.
