Delhi government today decided to clear Loni Road of unauthorised shops to streamline traffic movement.
The decision was taken after Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai met district and Public Works Department (PWD) officials to discuss preparations for the sixth Car-Free Day to be held on the stretch on March 22.
An official said several shopkeepers have encroached upon the road, leading to frequent traffic snarls on the stretch.
"Encroachment drive will be carried out from May 15 to 26 in the area and thereafter, the process of widening the road will be started," the official said.
