Loot attempt thwarted on Chennai Express

A gang of armed robbers tried to loot passengers of the Chennai Express between Nagwal and Tapri area here, an attempt thwarted by GRP jawans who opened fire at them.

Several rounds of fire were exchanged between the robbers and GRP personnel last night on board the Chandigarh- Madurai Chennai Express, triggering panic among passengers.

"A dozen armed miscreants pulled the emergency chainon the Chennai Express last night and started looting passengers. Soon GRP jawans arrived on the scene," GRP area in-charge Brajpal Singh said.

Some robbers were already present inside the train and few more joined them after the emergency chain was pulled to stop the train.
 

The team of GRP jawans from Meerut, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar areas present on the train quickly rushed to the scene to stop the robbers.
