Idols of Lord Ganesha were immersed in the Bay of Bengal by devotees marking the end of five day Vinayaka Chaturthi festival in Puducherry today.
The devotees played musical instruments and presented traditional dances during the procession to the Bay of Bengal for immersing the clay models.
Special poojas and aradhanas were performed to the idols installed on the main thoroughfares and also at Avvai thidal in the neighbouring Saram village during the five day long festival here since August 25.
Police were deployed in strength at all points and immersion of the idols took place at the designated sites.
