Leading NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul donned the role of a pandit to perform the wedding ceremony for his oldest grandson in Hungary.

The wedding of Akhil Paul to his Pakistani-origin fiance Bisma Mowjee was themed around the 2014 box-office hit "The Grand Budapest Hotel".

"It was fabulous. I am so proud of Akhil, who made all the arrangements himself. It felt like the whole of Hungary rose to occasion and the wedding became the talk of the town," said Paul.

The wedding reception took place in the grand Buda Castle in the Hungarian capital on Sunday and was preceded by a series of ceremonies, including a welcome dinner at the Museum of Ethnography attended by over 600 guests.

The civil wedding took place at a registry office in London today.

"It was official, today it became legal. The highlight of the wedding in Budapest was when I revealed myself as the pandit who performed the mantras for the ceremony. Akhil had requested that I arrange a pandit around six months ago and I had told him I had one in mind but he is quite expensive," Paul joked.

The Caparo Group chairman could hardly be away from work for too long and also held a few key meetings with Hungarian deputy speaker Istvan Jakab and minister for national development Dr Miklos Sesztak.

Dr Laszlo Szabo, deputy minister of foreign affairs and trade, attended the wedding festivities along with his family.

"It was overall a very positive feeling and I am looking forward to exploring how we can do more in Hungary," Paul said.
