A lorry driver was robbed of Rs 18,000 in cash at knife point today by a gang who intercepted his vehicle at Oothukuli in nearby Tirupur district, police said.
The driver was taking the cotton-laden lorry from Raichur in Karnataka to Annur on the city outskirts, when he noticed some persons hurling stones at his vehicle. As he stopped and got down, some of them came from the rear and relieved him of Rs 18,000, at knife point, they said.
In another incident near Annur, three persons, including a retired head constable, were arrested for attempting to extort money from a spinning mill owner by posing as labour department officials.
The mill owner grew suspicious and alerted police when the trio demanded Rs 25,000 from him for alleged violations by the firm.
