Senior IAS officer Lov Verma has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare.

Verma, a 1978-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, is presently Secretary, Department of AIDS Control under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

His appointment is to fill the vacancy caused by transfer of Keshav Desiraju, a 1978-batch IAS officer of Uttarakhand cadre, Ministry of Personnel said in a release today.

Desiraju, who was appointed a year ago as Health Secretary, was earlier this month transfered as Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs.

His transfer had evoked sharp reaction from former bureaucrats who claimed that Desiraju was moved out apparently after he opposed making Ketan Desai, who is facing graft charges, a member of Medical Council of India.

V K Subburaj, a 1980-batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, has been appointed Secretary, Department of AIDS Control. Subburaj is presently Special Secretary and Financial Adviser in Department of Fertilisers under Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, the release said.

Satyanarayan Mohanty, a 1980-batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, has been appointed Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under Ministry of Home Affairs.

Mohanty, who is presently Director General of Directorate General of Supplies & Disposals (DGS&D) under Ministry of Commerce & Industry as Secretary, has been appointed in the rank and pay of Secretary, it said.
