Singer-actress Demi Lovato believes her 2012 rehab stint helped her come out of the squeaky-clean Disney image that defined her childhood stardom.

The 24-year-old singer believed by the time she was over with her stint in rehab people had a different image of her.

"For me, the transition was a little bit easier because I didn't have to do anything to break out of the Disney mold. It's a lot easier when you just go to rehab," she told the Calgary Herald.

"So, I kind of grew up really fast in the public eye in that way and so when it was time to release my music, I think people looked at me differently."

Lovato made headlines when she checked herself into a facility to seek help for eating disorder and drug addiction.
