Low lying areas flooded

With rise in water level of rivers Kharkhai and Swarnarekha residents living in the catchment areas were alerted as two sluice gates were opened in the adjoining Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.

With binding rains, two houses in the low-lying area of Naya Bazar under Bagbera police station area were submerged as water level in the Kharkhai river went up, Sub-divisional Officer (Dalbhum), Prem Ranjan said.

The water level in Kharkhai and Swarnarekha was likely to flow over the danger mark later in the day with little improvement in the situation.

Meanwhile, around 70 families living in the low-lying areas in the Naya Bustee in Bagbera have been evacuated in view of the increasing water level, said Subodh Jha, President of Bagbera Mahanagar Vikas Samity, a social organization here.
 

Met Office sources said the steel city of Jamshedpur has recorded 11.7 mm rainfall between 5.30 pm of Sunday to 5.30 pm today.
