A low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, which triggered rains and thundershower in many areas of Odisha today, is likely to cause more heavy rains in some places by tomorrow.

The low pressure area now lies over the northern parts of the central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Bay of Bengal and the system is likely to be Well Marked Low Pressure Area during the next 48 hours, the MeT office here said.

Under its impact, rain and thundershower is likely to occur at many places in coastal part of the state and at a few places in interior areas of the state in the next 24 hours, it said.

Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Ganjam during the next 24 hours, the MeT office said.

Many areas of the state, particularly coastal region, have been experiencing rains and thundershower since yesterday under the influence of the low pressure, bringing much needed relief from the scorching heat.
