Lower demand drags down spice prices

Black pepper, ginger and copra prices fell in an otherwise sluggish spices market here today on lower demand from stockists and retailers amid subdued export off-take.

Black pepper, ginger bleached and unbleached eased Rs 5 per kg to Rs 685/740, Rs 165 and Rs 185 from Wednesday's closing level of Rs 685/745, Rs 170 and Rs 190, respectively.

Copra Rajapur Mumbai dropped by Rs 500 per quintal to Rs 12,500 from overnight level of Rs 13,000 and copra edible Mumbai slid by Rs 200 per quintal Rs 7,800 from Rs 8,000.

Copra office Alapuzha and Copra office Kozhikhode also declined by Rs 100 per kg to Rs 6,300 and Rs 6,100 as against Rs 6,400 and Rs 6,200 previously.
