Press Trust of India Mumbai
Cooking gas distributors today deferred their indefinite strike after assurance by oil marketing companies to look into their grievances.

The nation-wide strike called by the All India LPG Distributors Federation (AILDF) and Federation of LPG Distributors of India (FLDI) was to begin tomorrow and would have hit both domestic as well as commercial consumers.

The strike was deferred after the oil companies promised to include distributors' representatives in a panel which would review the Marketing Discipline Guidelines (MDG) and make a representation to the oil ministry in 60 days, AILDF's president Pratap Doshi said.

Among other things, distributors want scrapping of multiple pricing and immunity for proprietor/ manager of gas agency if the employee delivers cylinder to a wrong consumer for personal gain.

In the last few months, penal action has been taken against 500 of the total 13,000 distributors in the country, an office bearer of the federation said.

The representatives of the federations, however, could not offer any alternative to the multiple pricing system and also did not reply when asked if they are opposed to system of subsidies.
