An LPG tanker started leaking gas when it overturned Friday at the National Highway in Malappuram district as the driver lost control of the vehicle, police said.
There were no causalities, but the lorry driver was injured, they said
To prevent possibility of an explosion, 18 fire tenders from here and elsewhere in the district were rushed to the spot, police said.
Workers of the Indian Oil Corporation plant at Chelari, to where the tanker was headed from Mengaluru, arrived and began transferring the gas to another tanker, they said.
Vehicular traffic on the highway was affected for several hours, police said.
As a precautionary measure, power supply to homes in the area was disconnected and local people asked to stay clear of the site, they added.
